What a true first shows: The true first of the combined biography is the Harcourt, Brace one-volume edition (1954); the component works first appeared as 'The Prairie Years' (Harcourt, 2 vols, 1926) and 'The War Years' (Harcourt, 4 vols, 1939). This Dell Laurel paperback set is a later reprint.
