What a true first shows: The Peter Hurd-illustrated edition was first published by Charles Scribner's Sons in 1931 (copyright dates 1882/1888/1931 by Scribner's, 1910 by Baldwin). Scribner's of this era commonly marked first printings with a capital 'A' on the copyright page; a first printing would show that mark. No 'A' is visible here, and Scribner used no number line, so the first-printing status cannot be confirmed from what is shown.
